Broncos Drop Conference Finale 3-1 at LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 23rd-ranked Santa Clara University volleyball team ended its conference season Saturday with a 3-1 loss at Loyola Marymount. The Broncos finished third in West Coast Conference play with a 9-5 record and fell to 18-7 overall.

Santa Clara ends its regular season Tuesday in a 7 p.m. match at ninth-ranked Stanford. On Sunday, the NCAA will announce pairings for its annual postseason championships live on ESPN2.

Toni Muratore led three Broncos who posted double figures in kills with 21. Cassie Perrett registered 14, while Anna Cmaylo had 13. Kristen Luxton handed out a team-high 60 assists, while led four SCU players in double figures in digs with 20. Nora Miller had seven blocks.

LMU was led by Jody Carlson and Jania Motton, who had 17 kills apiece.

Santa Clara, which defeated Pepperdine by a 3-2 score the night before, jumped out to an early 30-25 lead after the first game but was unable to sustain its momentum through the match. Desite the Broncos bolting to a 7-2 lead in the second stanza, the Lions took game two by a 30-25 margin then won game three 30-22. After tying the score seven times in game four, the Broncos eventually lost the decider by a score of 30-25.
