Matich Named A CVU Stellar Spiker

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara volleyball setter Crystal Matich was named to Collegiate Volleyball Update's Stellar Spikers honorable mention list it was announced Friday. The senior was one of two West Coast Conference players to be honored by CVU.com as Heather Hughes from Loyola Marymount was also recognized.

Matich, a two-time All-American, compiled a team-best .331 hitting percentage (129-38-275) and led Santa Clara in assists, averaging 13.29 per game. That mark also placed Matich on top of the league standings in assists per game this season. The 2007 WCC Player of the Year also registered 33 service aces, 49 total blocks and 2.21 digs per game.

At the end of the season, Matich was ranked 14th in the nation in assists per game, which helped place Santa Clara as a team No 13 in the nation in that same category. The Broncos also ended the year, ranked 15th overall in kills per game.

Matich finished her career on the Mission Campus ranked third on the all-time assists average list, fourth in career assists with 4,384 and seventh on the all-time service ace list with 123.
