SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball has earned a co-West Coast Conference high six All-Academic awards for 2015, as announced by the WCC Wednesday. Kirsten Mead and Danielle Rottman were named to the WCC All-Academic team, while Natasha Calkins, GiGi Cresto, Katrina Inch and Mary Shepherd received honorable mention recognition.
This year marks the most All-Academic honorees in program history — the previous best was four Broncos in 2011 and 2014. San Francisco also had six players recognized with one all-academic team member and five honorable mentions.
Rottman, a senior communications major with a 3.42 GPA, set a single-season program record by averaging 4.96 digs/set. The All-WCC honorable mention selection led the conference in digs/set for the second straight season, and tallied 560 digs on the year.
Mead, a sophomore economics major with a 3.88 GPA, tallied 1,228 assists (11.06 assists/set, 2nd in WCC) and 40 aces (0.36 aces/set, 3rd in WCC) en route to First Team All-WCC honors.
Two Broncos are being honored for the second year in a row — Cresto made the All-Academic team last year and Shepherd took home an honorable mention. Calkins and Inch earned their first all-academic awards this season.
