SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco volleyball announces the fifth and final member of its incoming freshman class for 2016-17, Taylor Laugero. She currently attends Escalon High School in Escalon, Calif.
"As a student-athlete, I chose Santa Clara University because of its reputation for academic and athletic excellence," Laugero said. "Santa Clara focuses on developing its students mentally, physically, and spiritually. The school emphasizes every aspect of the person. Bronco athletes are not only great students, but quality people as well."
Laugero and the Cougars went 22-16 overall and reached the second round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Tournament under head coach Kayla Kootstra in 2015. They posted a 9-3 record in the Trans Valley League to finish in second place.
Escalon won a pair of postseason matches in each of Laugero's first three seasons with the team. During her junior year in 2014, the Cougars won the Stockton Classic, and the 5-foot-5-inch prospect was named Tournament MVP.
Laugero is also a standout tennis player at Escalon. She has earned TVL MVP honors and helped the Cougars to a first-place finish in the League Tournament. Laugero has also won a CIFSJS tournament championship.
"Taylor is a multi-sport athlete whose athleticism will be among the best players in our gym," Bronco head coach Jon Wallace said. "What sets her apart is her incredible spirit for life and playing the sport of volleyball."
Laugero has an active role at Escalon that includes serving as the Director of Student Body Activities and membership in the California Scholarship Federation, among other clubs and activities. The soon-to-be Bronco enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing volleyball and tennis.
