Women's Water Polo Rolls in Saturday's Season-Opener

SEASIDE, Calif. - Santa Clara women's water polo leaned on its veterans to claim a season-opening win.

Hannah Buck posted a career-high six goals while Mara Dominguez, Annie Eldredge and Maggie Oys scored two apiece to lead the Broncos to a comfortable 13-7 road win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.

Olivia Woolery and Angela Steele had two goals apiece for the Otters.

The Broncos pulled away late in the second quarter with the start of a 5-0 run.

Dominguez, Eldedge and Buck scored in a 1 minute, 30-second span to increase the lead to 7-3 and Santa Clara added two more markers midway through the third period.

Steele's first goal pulled the Otters with 9-6 early in the final quarter, but the Broncos answered with Buck scoring on the power play and freshman Gabi Sicat adding an even strength tally.

The Broncos went 3-for-4 with the man advantage and held the Otters to only 1 of 5.

Eldredge matched a career-high with three assists and Oys and Lauren Paxton had two each.

Sophomore Lydia Dadd had a career-best 10 saves in her first-career start.

The Broncos play their home opener on Thursday against sixth-ranked Hawai'i.
