SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team has the weekend off, after two big back-to-back tournaments, and a lot of travel last weekend.
"It's nice for the team to have a break from games this upcoming weekend," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We can train for a week focusing on ourselves rather than game planning for a specific team. It is also a good time for injured and sick players to get healthy, and for the whole team to get ahead on their studies going into finals."
Santa Clara traveled to Indiana Friday to compete in the Indiana Classic, defeating Mercyhurst, 8-2, and Washington and Jefferson, 14-3, on the final day.
Wilbur has noticed the team defense and Lydia Dadd's strong net presence this season.
"Our defense has been key throughout the season," said Wilbur. "Lydia has played really well in the goal, and our team defense has been solid in front of her. In all of our best wins so far this season, it's has been our defense that's carried us. "
The Broncos (9-9) are more than halfway done with the schedule, having just 10 regular-season games remaining.
"At this point, we've covered all phases of the game, and we are looking to fine tune, especially on offense," said Wilbur. "That can be reacting quicker and really pushing our counter attacks, being more consistent on our six-on-five, or having multiple ways to attack on our half court offense."
Next up, The Broncos serve as host to Concordia and Cal St. East Bay on Saturday, March 17.
