SPOKANE, Wash.--Austin Daye scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures as Gonzaga defeated Santa Clara 95-53 on Thursday night. Santa Clara continues its road swing with a COMCAST-televised game at Portland on Saturday, playing its first three of four league games on the road.
Matt Bouldin added 16 points, Steven Gray 15, Josh Heytvelt 11 and Jeremy Pargo 11 for Gonzaga (11-4, 2-0 West Coast Conference).
John Bryant scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Santa Clara (7-12, 0-3), which started off the WCC season with the top three teams in the league including road games at Saint Mary's and Gonzaga. It was Bryant's 12th double-double of the season. James Rahon added 14 points for the Broncos.
The Broncos, who lost their previous four games by a total of 15 points, suffered their worst loss of the season.
Gonzaga shot 55 percent in the game, won the battle of the boards 46-29, and forced the Broncos into 36 percent shooting and 17 turnovers. It was the highest scoring total of the season for the Zags and the most the Broncos have allowed this year as well.
Gonzaga led 52-29 at halftime.
