SANTA CLARA, Calif.- John Bryant had 18 points and 12 rebounds in collecting his 14th double-double of the year to help Santa Clara get its first conference win of the season, 70-54 over San Francisco.

Bryant was 9 of 11 from the field as the Broncos shot 54%, its highest percentage since they shot 59.6% in its win over CSU East Bay on Nov. 14.

James Rahon added a career-high 21 points as the Broncos ended a six-game losing streak and made it seven-straight over the Dons.

"We had the best three-day stretch of practice this season the last three days," said Bronco head coach Kerry Keating. "We won this game in practice this week. We really stayed positive and it's good to get back on the other side of the column. Our defense won the game for us tonight. When we weren't making some shots we were capable of making, our defense stepped up and played well."

"When our attitude and effort is good, we can win any game," added Keating. "James came in a couple times this week and shot the ball a lot and it showed tonight in the game."

"Dior is a great player and he's very strong. He's a little bit quicker than I am, but I am a little big bigger so it was a good match-up for both of us," said Bronco center John Bryant.

"This was not an efficient effort of us. Our guys want to do well, they just don't know how to yet," said USF head coach Rex Walters. "When you go into conference games, teams will try to take advantage of what you don't do well. Santa Clara did that to us tonight. On defense we weren't very good, they made some tough shots and that got us fragmented."

"Kevin Foster is one of the best shooters in our league. And so is James Rahon. Marc Trasolini is a lot bigger than I thought he would be. They are true 6-9, 6-10, 7-0 players," added Walters.

Kwame Vaughn scored 14 points to lead the Dons, who lost their fifth straight and eight of nine overall. Dior Lowhorn had 13 points.

The Broncos streaked to an early 22-9 lead and never trailed, limiting San Francisco to a season-low 17 points in the first half.
