SCU Climbs To Sixth Place After Two Rounds

THE FLAMBOYAN, PUERTO RICO - The Santa Clara men's golf team moved up to sixth place after two rounds of the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate hosted by St. John's University. The Broncos posted the second best team score of the day (289) and the third best overall team score of the tournament thus far.

Santa Clara has a combined score of 598 (+22) and is eight strokes behind fifth place St. John's. Virginia Commonwealth University took over first place with a score of 579 (+3), while UNC Greensboro is two strokes behind at 581.

Individually, the Broncos are led by senior Jonathan Keane, who jumped from being tied for 21st to being tied for 10th place. He shot 70 in the second round and is now two-over par 146. Freshman Ronnald Monaco and junior Shaun Pienkos are tied for 23rd at six-over par 150. Junior Jimmy Cacho and sophomore Tyler Ichikawa are tied for 35, shooting 153 (+9).

Will Bowman of UNC Greensboro held on to first place at six-under par 138 (67-71).

The third and final round will be played on Wednesday.
