Travers Tied For 5th After Day 1 At State Qualifiers

DALY CITY, Calif. - Santa Clara junior Scott Travers of the men's golf program heads into the final round of qualifiers for the 98th Annual California State Amateur Championship on Tuesday tied for fifth place. The top 32 players after the two rounds, which are played on June 22-23 at Lake Merced GC in Daly City, will advance to the match play bracket to compete for the championship.

Along with Travers, freshmen Danny Cacho and Ronnald Monaco are also competing for a chance to advance to the championship bracket.

Travers shot a three-under par 69 after the first 18 on Monday. He is tied for fifth with three other golfers and is just two strokes behind leaders Sam Smith and Scott Clayton. Travers tees off at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monaco compiled a solid day one performance, shooting two-over 74. He is tied for 48th place and will tee off at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Cacho struggled through the first round and finished tied for 129th at seven-over 79. He began the second round at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
