Santa Clara Men’s Soccer Ranked Among Nation’s Top 30

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's soccer team is ranked No. 30 nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The publication announced its preseason poll Wednesday, in an attempt to project the NCAA tournament's field of 48.

Led by tenth-year head coach Cameron Rast, the Broncos are spending the week practicing at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. SCU is preparing for its 2011 season-opener, a date with local rival Stanford in the Bay Area Classic on Saturday, August 27 at SCU's Buck Shaw Stadium.

"The team is looking good, picking up where we left off in the spring," said Santa Clara senior goalkeeper Kevin Klasila (pictured right). "We are playing really good soccer. Everyone knows each other, so it's been easy getting things going."

Klasila, whose 66 saves last season ranked eighth in school history, is part of an experienced group that returns all of its starters from the team's championship season a year ago.

The schedule will test the Broncos immediately. Games against Stanford (Aug. 27), No. 6 UCLA (Sept. 2), New Mexico (Sept 4) and No. 7 Cal (Sept. 16) are part of a demanding non-conference slate awaiting SCU upon the team's return from Chula Vista.

All of Santa Clara's home games will be broadcast live for FREE on SantaClaraBroncos.com. The opening matches with Stanford and UCLA will feature play-by-play audio from Charles Wollin.

Additionally, season tickets for all 12 home games start at $50 for adults and $25 for youth and seniors. The SCU athletic department is also offering a season ticket 'Family Plan,' which includes five tickets to every home game for just $100.

Fans can purchase tickets online (www.SantaClaraBroncos.com/buytickets), over the phone at 408-554-4660 or by visiting the SCU Ticket Office, located at The Leavey Center, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara campus, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
