SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's soccer team (2-1-1) scored three goals in 2:57 between the 15:43 and 18-minute mark to surge past Nebraska-Omaha (1-3-0). Freshman Glenn Vass started the scoring frenzy with his first collegiate goal. Connor Mitchell picked up two assists in two minutes on the Broncos first two goals.

The Broncos offense got two early opportunities on balls played to Keigo Kameya, but both the shots missed just wide of the net.

Santa Clara kept the attack and it paid off at 15:43 when Vass scored his first collegiate goal on a cross from Mitchell.

Moments later, the Broncos struck again with another ball from the corner. Mitchell picked up his second assist of the game on a cross to Erik Hurtado who fired it into the back of the net.

As soon as Santa Clara gained possession of the ball they scored their third goal in under three minutes. Hurtado this time set up Carlos Montes with a ball at the top of the box and Montes beat Nebraska-Omaha's goalie, Josh Christensen, to put the Broncos on top 3-0.

Kevin Klasila made three routine saves to hold the Mavericks scoreless.

After the first half, the game was delayed for over two hours due to weather conditions.

"During a long break I think concentration is the most important thing," said head coach Cam Rast on the delay. "We needed to make sure we didn't disappear mentally and it was important that the players identified that. The group that was on field doesn't see as much time as the group that started so we left that group on the field as a motivator to start the second half. They set a good tone and played well."

Eric Masch scored a goal in the 59th minute. He rocketed a shot from the top of the box that beat the keeper in the upper-left corner of the goal. The goal put that score at 4-0 in favor of Santa Clara and that is where the game would end.

The Broncos return to the field on Sun., Sept 11 at 2 p.m. against Cleveland State at Buck Shaw. The game will the second in a double-header with women's soccer.
