Men’s Soccer Newcomer – Liam Johnson

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer welcomed Liam Johnson of Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, California, where he was named Player of the Year by both Prep2Prep Central Coast Section and San Mateo Daily Journal, to join the program this fall.

"My reasons for choosing Santa Clara were first and foremost the location of the school and the beauty of it," said Johnson.  "The Mission Campus catches any eye that visits the school, and for me, it was also super important that it was close to home. The players that I was able to meet on my official visit also made for a desirable location since everyone was friendly."

Johnson starred in multiple positions while at Sacred Heart Prep.  The 5-foot-10 Johnson started off as a defender before playing up to hold the defensive mid and attacking mid positions before finishing up as a striker in his senior campaign to cap off a four-year varsity career with 50 goals and 50 assists.

Last season Johnson was named first-team All-CCS following a second-team recognition in 2019.  He also played club soccer for De Anza Force Academy.

"I think Liam is going to be one of the big surprises for our program," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "He has more pace than you would think and he is continuing to find higher levels in his game.  Liam's risen to challenges every time he's been challenged from playing as a defender to the other positions he's played at."
