Seven Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Earn WCC All-Academic Recognitions

West Coast Conference Release

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer had seven players honored for their work in the classroom by the West Coast Conference on Monday when Andreu Cases Mundet and Javier Ruiz Duran were named to the All-Academic Team and five others – Alex Achramowicz, Sakari Carter, Emil Christensen, Alejandro Perez and Tennyson Stevens – named as honorable mention.

Cases Mundet, a graduate transfer goalkeeper from Wake Forest, and Ruiz Duran are both working towards a master of arts degree in educational leadership and have GPAs of 3.855 and 4.0, respectively, to earn one of 11 spots on the All-Academic Team.  This is the first time either student-athlete was named to the conference All-Academic team while Ruiz Duran garnered honorable mention honors in 2018 and 2019.

Ruiz Duran was named first-team All-WCC back in April.  He led the team in assists with three and scored a pair of goals to tie for second on the squad including the game-winner at Portland (April 3).  His seven points were second most on the team.

Cases Mundet had a 4-2 record including three clean sheets to go along with a 1.01 goals-against-average in his first season with the Broncos.

This is the third All-Academic honor for Achramowicz who has a 3.869 GPA as a computer science & engineering major while appearing in all eight matches.  The senior midfielder from Alameda, California earned honorable mention recognitions in 2018 and 2019.

Backline mates Carter and Christensen were named as honorable mention for the second time.

Carter, a junior, has a 3.895 GPA majoring in finance and appeared in five matches in the spring.

Christensen, a senior, with a 3.599 GPA in economics played the final five matches of the season where the Broncos went 4-1 including three shutouts.  He was also named first-team All-WCC.

Perez, a junior, earned his second honorable mention recognition with a 3.258 GPA in economics while playing in all eight matches.

Stevens earned a spot as an honorable mention for the first time with his 3.367 GPA in accounting while competing in six matches.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.

The Broncos also had seven student-athletes named WCC All-Academic in 2019.
