Men's Soccer Drops Home Opener to LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – LMU's offense proved to be too much for Santa Clara men's soccer in a 3-0 defeat in the home opener Sunday.

The Lions (2-0, 1-0 WCC) were on the front foot from the start and kept the pressure up most of the game. They attempted 14 shots and put eight on goal while holding the Broncos (0-2, 0-1 WCC) offense to seven shots and two on target, both stopped by Jacob Jackson.

Noel Caliskan had a big day for LMU, scoring a goal and adding an assist. Steven Anderson also scored and had an assist with Duhaney Williams finding the back of the net as well.

After knocking on the door for much of the first half, the Lions finally broke through in the 43rd minute. A give and go with Derek Goodman and Caliskan led to a ball sent into the box. A Bronco defender got a head on it but couldn't get it clear and Anderson took advantage by sliding a low shot into the net.

Caliskan added a goal in the 53rd minute to give LMU a 2-0 advantage. A cross from Anderson got to the six-yard box and Caliskan deflected it into the back of the net.

Williams scored the final goal in the 84th on a breakaway.

Seven different Broncos registered a shot with Julian Bravo and Cole Motooka getting theirs on target. Guillem Badenes Mecho finished the game with five saves.
