April 3, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The doubles point turned out to be the difference as the No. 53 Santa Clara men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker today, 4-3, to conference foe San Francisco.

Sophomores Kyle Dandan and Nicolas Vinel were victorious at No. 2 doubles over Ola Bakke and William Schumacher, defeating the Don pair 8-3, but it was the only win in doubles the Broncos were able to get.

In singles action, senior Brian Brogan defeated Einar Hart in straight sets in No. 2 singles, two and one. Senior Jay Wong won as well at the No. 3 position, beating Asaf Cohen, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

Vinel made sure he did all he could for Santa Clara, winning his No. 4 singles match after winning in doubles by coming from behind to overtake Bakke, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Broncos return to the court tomorrow to take on a tough West Coast Conference opponent. First serve at the Degheri Tennis Center against Gonzaga will be at noon.
