April 19, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's tennis team has just announced the newest member of its top 25 nationally ranked recruiting class with the signing of four-star recruit Kyohhei "Keith" Kamono. Kamono, a Japanese native, has been training at the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Fla. for the last three years. He has earned a No. 56 ranking among senior recruits in the United States and a top 200 ranking in ITF standings. He has been playing only in ITF tournaments for the past several years and has compiled a number of wins over blue chip players over the past several months.

"We are really excited to have Keith join the Santa Clara tennis family in the fall," said Bronco head coach Derek Mills. "Keith is a great player who has the desire to get better and improve his game every day. He will have the opportunity to enter our line up next fall and contribute right away as a freshman. Keith's experience in ITF tournaments and in blue chip match-ups will give our team a new element to compete."

Santa Clara is excited to bring Kamono into the Bronco tennis family. He has distinguished himself as an exemplary student having maintained a high GPA in high school and as a National Honors Society inductee. He plans to study in Santa Clara's School of Engineering starting next fall. On top of his academic accolades, Kamono's coaches have commented on his outstanding work ethic and a strong desire to improve his tennis game.
