Bronco Women's Soccer Set To Play For WCC Title Tonight On ESPNU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 7 Santa Clara women's soccer team will play for the West Coast Conference championship tonight at San Diego. The game will be at 6 p.m. and broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

"People that do competitive athletics are adrenaline junkies and like all other Division I teams we are not only trying to win our conference but also win the national championship. To be in the hunt for a championship at the end of the season is what we want. It is exhilarating to get that rush," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith about playing for the program's first WCC title since 2006. "Also, it is wonderful experience to have a do-or-die game to end the regular season. The NCAA Tournament is win or go home and it is important for us to learn to control our emotions in those games."

The Broncos currently have a one point lead over both San Diego and Pepperdine in the conference. A win would give Santa Clara its first WCC championship since 2006 when the team went 15-5-1 overall with a 5-1-1 mark in conference play. That season the Broncos fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to USC by a score of 1-0.
