SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer (13-2-5; 6-1-1 WCC) fell for only the second time this season by a score of 3-0 to San Diego (12-7-0; 7-1-0). The win for the Toreros clinched a share of their first West Coast Conference title in school history. Stephanie Ochs led the way for San Diego with three assists. Senior goalkeeper Bianca Henninger had three saves for the Broncos.
The Broncos did not get off to the start they were looking for despite controlling the ball in the USD half for the first part of the game. In the 20th minute Mariah Butera drew first blood when she took a cross from the right side from Ochs and put it past Henninger to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Toreros.
Five minutes later San Diego struck again to make the score 2-0. Meghan O'Rourke gathered a loose ball in the box that Santa Clara failed to clear and headed it to the left side of the goal, away from Henninger who had no chance. The goal was again assisted by Ochs.
In the 63rd minute San Diego pushed the score to 3-0. Ochs took a corner kick that went to Elissa Magracia who got the ball to Dani Russell who put it in the back of the net. The 3-0 score is where the game would end.
Santa Clara's next game will be in the NCAA Tournament. The game will played between Nov. 11 and Nov. 13. There will be a live stream of the tournament selections at 1:30 p.m. at NCAA.com.
