SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team fell to Early Bird Tournament host, UC Santa Barbara, 1-0 this afternoon. The Broncos finished 2-3 at the tournament.
Santa Clara held the Gauchos scoreless till the bottom of the seventh inning, when UC Santa Barbara managed a run.
The Broncos tallied seven hits compared to the Gauchos four. Both teams recorded no errors.
Senior Jaime Forman-Lau pitched the whole game for Santa Clara, striking out five, allowing no walks and one earned run.
"Jaime pitched really well," head coach Marcy Crouch said. "It was the best game she pitched all weekend.
Sophomore Jenny Brown was 3-for-4 at the plate and Kate Goethals went 2-for-3.
"I'm a little disappointed to end the tournament with a loss, but we played a lot better today than our previous four games," Crouch continued. "I am proud of the girls. We had a lot of energy out there and hopefully we will carry that over to the next weekend."
The Broncos return to action next Friday against Long Beach State at the Long Beach State Tournament. The first pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
