Broncos Repeat Weekly Softball Honors

April 30, 2004

LOS ANGELES - Santa Clara University softball teammates Jessica Clee and Jaime Forman-Lau earned weekly honors from the Pacific Coast Softball Conference for outstanding performances this past week. Clee, a sophomore outfielder from Milbrae, was named the league's Player of the Week, while Forman-Lau, a senior from San Jose, earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Both also swept the league's weekly honors March 9, while Forman-Lau was also last week's honored pitcher.

Clee batted an impressive .750 in four games against San Diego, going 6-8 at the plate. She notched six RBIs, and scored five runs. Two of her hits were home runs, including a grand slam. She added a triple to her totals and did not strike out during any plate appearances. Clee started all four games in left field, playing errorless defense while making seven catches.

Forman-Lau threw a perfect game against the Toreros on Sunday, striking out nine. She posted a 3-0 record on the weekly, allowing only four earned runs. She posted a 1.47 ERA and only walked three batters. Forman-Lau struck out 28 in the three complete games, with her third on Saturday breaking a school record for career Ks. She currently has 530 in less than two seasons. She is tied 15th nationally in season victories, with 22.

The Broncos are 12-4 in PCSC play heading into the final weekend of league competition. They hold a one-game lead over preseason favorite Loyola Marymount and are in a must-win situation when they return to the field this weekend. The Broncos visit Sacramento State at Shea Stadium for noon doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The Hornets are in third place with a 10-6 conference mark and will prove a tough test for SCU.

"We have set ourselves up so that conference is in our hands," head coach Marcy Crouch said earlier in the week. "Sacramento State is a good team, so it will be a battle, but if we play like we have been playing, hopefully we will come out on top."

Santa Clara found themselves in a similar situation last year, when the team took the inaugural PCSC Championship down to the final day of action, dropping two must-win games against Saint Mary's that handed the conference title to the Lions last season.
