May 13, 2004

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Pacific Coast Softball Conference announced its individual honorees today, handing two of the top four awards to Broncos for the second season in a row. Head Coach Marcy Crouch repeated as the Coach of the Year, while senior Jaime Forman-Lau received her second Pitcher of the Year honors.

Crouch led the Broncos to their first PCSC title in the conference's second season of play, finishing with a 16-4 record. Overall, Santa Clara posted a second consecutive 30-win season, equaling the program-best mark set last year.

Senior Jaime Forman-Lau

Forman-Lau, from nearby San Jose, led the conference in ERA (1.32), opposing batting average (.201), innings pitched (100.2), and strikeouts (131). She currently ranks 13th in the nation in victories with 25.

The PCSC also announced the 2004 All-Conference First-Team, with five Bay Area natives making the list: Forman-Lau, sophomores Jenny Brown, Shannon Linerud, and Jessica Clee, as well as senior Rachel Sherman.

Forman-Lau was also a four-time PCSC Pitcher of the Week honoree. She leads the team with a 1.45 ERA and a 25-16 record. She has recorded 278 strikeouts on the season and a program-best 557 in her two-year career.

Starting all 53 games this season, Brown, a second baseman from Campbell, leads the team with a .310 batting average. She tallied 27 runs scored and 14 doubles this season.

Linerud, a shortstop from San Jose, made 52 starts this season, seeing action in all 53 games. She has posted 28 hits, including a team-leading three triples, while notching 22 RBIs.

Clee, an outfielder from Milbrae, is a two-time PCSC Player of the Week honoree, and leads the team with 30 RBIs and six home runs.

Sherman, a catcher from Mountain View, is second on the team in batting average, with a .293. She has totaled 41 hits, 21 RBIs and 15 runs. She has notched eight two-RBI games.

Santa Clara now awaits the NCAA Softball Championship selections. The Division I Softball bracket will be announced exclusively on ESPNews. The 64-team field will be revealed on Sunday, May 16 between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Pacific time.
