SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team will take on the Sacramento State Hornets this weekend at Shea Stadium in Sacramento, in an effort to secure the Pacific Coast Softball Conference title.
Currently, the Broncos are 12-4 in league play with Loyola Marymount trailing closely behind with an 11-5 record. To ensure the league title, Santa Clara must take all four games from Sacramento State, who hold third place with a 10-6 PCSC record.
"We have set ourselves up so that conference is in our hands," head coach Marcy Crouch said. "Sacramento State is a good team, so it will be a battle, but if we play like we have been playing, hopefully we will come out on top."
Santa Clara found themselves in a similar situation last year, as they took the inagural PCSC Championship down to the final day of action, dropping two must-win games against Saint Mary's that handed the conference title to Loyola Marymount last season.
Portland State is currently in fourth with a 9-7 PCSC record, and San Diego and Saint Mary's are tied in the bottom spot each holding a 3-13 league mark.
The Broncos will be led this weekend by senior pitcher Jaime Forman-Lau, who is tied in the 15th spot nationally in victories with 22.
Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders at Sacramento State are slated to begin at noon. Click here for driving directions to the Hornet facilities.
