SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Santa Clara softball team concluded day two of play at the San Diego Classic I with losses to Colorado State and Missouri. In the morning, the Broncos fell, 10-1, in five innings to the Buffalos of CSU, and in the afternoon, they fell, 10-0, to Missouri in their second straight five inning contest.
The Broncos scored their lone run of the day versus Colorado in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Noelani Ho'opi'i led off the inning with a single. Breann Netto then reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop, forcing Ho'opi'i to be out at second. Pitch hitter Jackie Nicora then grounded out to third base, advancing Netto to second and freshman Briana Knight doubled down the right field line to score Netto. It was the Bronco newcomer's eighth RBI of the season.
Pitcher Jenna Fong threw seven strikeouts, three versus Colorado and four versus Missouri. Fong, who suffered her fourth loss of the season to the Tigers of Missouri, posts 10 strikeouts this season.
The Broncos look to bounce back on Sunday, March 1, against tournament hosts San Diego State. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
