SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Santa Clara softball team closed out play at the San Diego Classic I Sunday afternoon. The Broncos fell in five innings to San Diego State, 12-0. SCU freshman outfielder Briana Knight posted her eighth hit of the season versus the Aztecs of SDSU. Knight singled to shortstop to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
Knight has made a major impact on the Bronco lineup. She has started all nine contests this season and boasts a .333 batting average. With a .750 slugging percentage, Knight posts eight RBIs, four doubles and two home runs in 24 at bats this season.
Pitcher Jenna Fong, and infielders Amanda Edmonson and Megan Smith posted SCU's other three hits in the Southern California contest. Fong had one strikeout in 3.2 innings pitched.
The Broncos look to earn their second win of the season this week. Santa Clara will travel to Manao, Hawai'i to take on six opponents: Hawai'i, Florida Gulf Coast, Mississippi State, Mount Saint Mary's, Oregon State and Radford, from March 5-8.
