Mize Announces 2009 Softball Signee

June 16, 2009

Santa Clara head softball coach Lisa Mize is proud to announce the signing of Jamie Wallis, a recent graduate of Lynbrook High School in San Jose. Wallis, an outfielder/utility player, was named the 2008 and 2009 MVP of her high school team and will join the Broncos in the fall.

Wallis, a four year Varsity player, was named to the SCVAL First Team All-League for three consecutive years from 2007 to 2009 in either the DeAnza or El Camino Division.

"Jamie is a confident, disciplined hitter that should make an immediate impact in our lineup," said Mize. "Defensively, she brings a ton of versatility with the ability to play infield & outfield well. Jamie has great skill set & knowledge of the game and will be big asset to our program. I look forward to her being a part of the Bronco softball family."

Wallis played softball for the Lynbrook Vikings for coach Linda Nichols. She led her team in just about every batting category the past two seasons, including average and slugging percentage.

She is currently playing with the 18 Gold club team, San Jose Sting. Previously, she played club softball for 4 years with the San Jose Strikkers organization and advanced to the ASA Nationals in 2007. Both teams are recognized as regular contenders in national competition. In addition, Wallis played basketball (two years) and volleyball (one year). A cheerleader for four years, she was the captain of the Viking Cheerleading squad her senior year.

"I chose Santa Clara because every time I have been on campus I have been so impressed and have felt very welcomed," said Wallis. "I also have several family friends who are alumni and have spoken very highly of their experiences as SCU students. With its Division 1 softball program and excellent academic reputation, SCU is a perfect fit for me."

Wallis is the daughter of Santa Clara dentist, Dr. Kenneth Wallis and Tracy Wallis. They reside in Saratoga, Calif.
