SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara softball team was swept by University of Hawa'i Monday afternoon at West Valley College Softball Field. The Broncos were shutout 12-0 in the first game and 9-0 to close out the two-game series. On a hot and sunny afternoon in the Bay Area, the Rainbow Wahine got the best of SCU, as the Broncos only managed to post three hits on the day.

UH took off with a seven-run first inning in the early game. After keeping Santa Clara off the board and limiting SCU to one hit, the `Bows' tacked on five additional runs to post a 12-0 win in five innings. Junior Breann Netto tallied the Broncos' lone hit in the contest. The Hanford, Calif. native, who started at first base in both games, singled to center field in the second inning.

In the final game of the day, the Broncos kept pace with Hawai'i through the first three innings. The Rainbow Wahine took a 1-0 lead in the second, but in the fourth they scored two runs and followed with six more runs in the final three innings of the game. The Broncos' first hit of the game came off the bat of Jackie Nicora. The SCU outfielder singled to left field, but the Santa Clara offense could not produce any runs off the lone hit in the inning. Freshman Christine Prochnow closed out the game with a single to center field in the bottom of the seventh.

Santa Clara (5-42, 0-12 PCSC) looks to post their first conference victory of the season this weekend when they host San Diego from April 25-26. The four-game series will be played at the West Valley College Softball Field. First pitch is set for noon on Saturday and Sunday.
