Softball Topped by Cal in Weekend Finale

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Zoe Conley proved too much for Santa Clara softball, tossing a one-hitter in a 9-1 win for Cal in five innings Sunday at the Capital City Kickoff.

Conley (2-0) gave up an earned run with three walks and five strikeouts while facing just five over the minimum and allowed just one baserunner after the first.

The Bears (3-0) offense got going right away with two runs in the first on a home run by Mikayla Coelho.

Cal added single runs in the second and third before scoring five times in the fourth to put the game away.

Coelho finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Karlee Sparacino was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored with Jazmyn Jackson and Bradie Fillmore also adding two hits apiece.

Aubree Kim (0-2) started for Santa Clara (0-5) and went 2-plus innings while allowing eight runs on five hits with six walks.

The Broncos took a brief lead in the top of the first behind the legs of Ellie Fisher. After a walk started the game, Fisher stole second and third before coming home on an RBI groundout by Taylor Burns.

Hannah Russell picked the lone hit of the day for Santa Clara, a two-out single in the first.
