SCU Women's Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second consecutive week transfer Kim Bates paced the Santa Clara women's cross country team as the Broncos finished fifth out of 14 teams at the Fresno State Invitational today at Woodard Park.

The Broncos totaled 144 points in the meet and finished behind the University of Nevada, Chico State, UC San Diego and UC Davis in the team standings.

"We ran really well and made a jump from last week," said team captain Milena Basile. "We are making progress and looking forward to UC Davis next week when we hope to improve our times."

Bates (Los Alamitos, Calif.) covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:45 and finished in seventh-place overall. Sophomore Robin Bell (Spokane, Wash.) finished 17th in a time of 19:13, while Basile (Bellevue, Wash.) was 22nd in a time of 19:23. Katie Hansen (Lake Forest, Calif.) and Courtney Daniels (Hermosa Beach, Calif) were the Broncos fourth and fifth runners finishing in 54th and 58th places, respectively.

The Broncos return to action next weekend in the annual UC Davis Invitational in Davis, Calif.
