Nov. 15, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men and women's cross country teams will be competing to try to extend their seasons Saturday at the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course.

The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 10 a.m., while the men's 10,000-meter race begins at 11 a.m. The starting line is near the second tee of the Stanford Golf Course. Spectator parking is available at the corner of Stock Farm Drive and Campus Drive. Complete individual and team results of the 2002 NCAA West Regional will be available at SantaClaraBroncos.com by approximately 3 p.m.

The top two teams in both the men's and women's races, as well as the top four men's and women's individuals from teams that do not qualify for the NCAA Championships are guaranteed entry into the NCAA's. Additional at large team and individual entries will be announced by the NCAA on Monday, November 18.

The Bronco men and women's teams are both coming off runner-up finishes at the West Coast Conference championships two weeks ago at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont, Calif. On the women's side, Kim Bates finished second to lead the Bronco women to their second-best finish at the league championships in school history.

The Santa Clara men took second at the WCC meet behind nationally-ranked Portland by finishing four runners in the top 10 at the meet, led by seniors Thomas Chapman and Michael Helms. The NCAA meet will mark the first time Santa Clara has stepped-up to 10,000-meters this season, having competed in 8,000-meter and four mile races throughout the season.

The Stanford Golf Course is located at 198 Junipero Serra Blvd, Stanford, CA 94305. For directions click here.
