Giants Select Vizcaino, Jr. in 7th Round; Rays Select Karalus in 8th Round of MLB Draft Tuesday
June 09, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball had two players selected on Tuesday, the second day of the 2015 MLB Draft. Jose Vizcaino, Jr. became the second-highest Bronco pick since 1997 when the San Francisco Giants selected him in the 7th round (No. 216 overall). Just 22 picks later, the Tampa Bay Rays selected Reece Karalus in the 8th round (No. 238 overall). Tuesday marked the first time in 18 years that the Broncos had a pair of players selected in the first eight rounds of the same draft. The last pair was Paul Chiaffredo (6th round – No. 179 – Toronto Blue Jays) and Mike Frank (7th round – No. 218 – Cincinnati Reds) in 1997. -
Bronco Baseball's 2015 Summer Youth Camps Open For Registration
May 22, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — RD Academy Summer Youth Camps at Santa Clara University are open to players between the ages of 7-13 years old. The five-day camp offers personal and group instruction in all phases of the game of baseball. Players will receive top level instruction from current Santa Clara University coaches, former college players, and current SCU players. -
Bronco Baseball Commit Howard Named AZPreps365 Division II Player of the Year
May 22, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara Baseball commit Travis Howard has been named to the AZPreps365.com Arizona High School Baseball All-Division II First Team. Howard is one of 13 players and just three pitchers to receive the honor this year. -
Baseball's Wilson Named WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention
May 20, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball's Steven Wilson has been named a 2015 West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention, announced by the WCC Wednesday. At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team. -
Four Baseball Players Receive All-WCC Honors; Vizcaino, Jr. Named to First Team
May 19, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball has been recognized with four All-West Coast Conference honors, announced by the WCC Tuesday. Junior shortstop Jose Vizcaino, Jr. has been named First Team All-WCC, junior righthander Reece Karalus and sophomore catcher Stevie Berman received Second Team All-WCC honors, and redshirt freshman righthander Mitchell White was named to the conference’s All Freshman team. -

May 16, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — On the final day of the 2015 regular season and senior day, Santa Clara baseball fell to BYU 4-2 at Schott Stadium Saturday. The Broncos finish their 2015 campaign at 26-28 overall and 12-15 in West Coast Conference play. -
Baseball Walks off to Win 8-7, Even Series with BYU
May 15, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball used a walkoff walk by Jake Brodt in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 8-7 and even its West Coast Conference series with BYU Friday night at Schott Stadium. The Broncos broke a stretch of six straight Cougar runs with the bases-loaded walk, which brought in Jose Vizcaino, Jr. for the game-winning run. -
Baseball Drops Opener 8-5 in Extras to BYU; Eliminated from Postseason Contention

Broncos Win Seventh Straight 2-1 in Extras over Spartans
May 13, 2015SAN JOSE, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball won its seventh straight game with a 2-1 victory in 11 innings Tuesday night against San Jose State at Municipal Stadium. The Broncos played a season-long 11-inning contest and picked up their fourth extra-inning win of the 2015 campaign in their final nonconference matchup of the year. -
Baseball Finishes Regular Season with Postseason Implications vs. BYU, to Hold Senior Day Saturday
May 13, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball plays its final series of the 2015 regular season with a West Coast Conference matchup against BYU Thursday-Saturday at Schott Stadium. On Saturday, the Broncos will honor seniors TJ Braff, Evan Brisentine and CJ Jacobe before the season finale 1 p.m. first pitch. -

May 10, 2015PORTLAND, Ore. — Santa Clara baseball produced its biggest ninth inning of the season with five runs to overturn a 5-3 deficit on its way to an 8-6 win over Portland Sunday at Jose Etzel field. The Broncos posted their first West Coast Conference series sweep of the season by winning all three games against the Pilots. -

First pitch times are set for 2 p.m. PDT Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. On the second to last WCC weekend of the regular season, the Broncos are still in contention for a top four spot in the conference and a second straight appearance in the WCC Baseball Championship. -

Budnick’s 10th-Inning Homer Clinches First Sweep of Stanford in 41 Years
May 05, 2015STANFORD, Calif. — Ryan Budnick broke a scoreless tie with a leadoff home run in the 10th inning for Santa Clara baseball in a 1-0 victory over Stanford at Sunken Diamond Tuesday night. With the win, the Broncos have swept the season series against the Cardinal for the first time since the 1974 season. -
Jose Vizcaino, Jr. Wins Third WCC Rawlings Player of the Week Award for 2015 Season

This marks the third player of the week selection for Vizcaino, Jr., this season — he also took home the honors for the first two weeks of the year. -

May 02, 2015MORAGA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to defeat the Saint Mary’s Gaels 8-7 at Louis Guisto Field Friday afternoon. The Broncos scored the first five runs of the ballgame and the Gaels answered with seven runs between the sixth and seventh innings before Santa Clara’s three-run rally in the contest’s final frame. -

May 01, 2015MORAGA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball put baserunners aboard in all nine innings Friday afternoon, and scored one run in a 6-1 loss against the Saint Mary’s Gaels at Louis Guisto Field. The Broncos scored their only run of the game on an RBI fielder’s choice by Kyle Cortopassi in the ninth inning. -

Each team scored at least one run in each of its first three innings and the six-run Aggie seventh broke a string of three straight scoreless frames. -

April 28, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball plays its final midweek home game of the season when it hosts the UC Davis Aggies for a 6 p.m. first pitch Tuesday night at Schott Stadium. The Broncos won two of three games against the Gonzaga Bulldogs last weekend to earn their first West Coast Conference series win since taking two of three games from the Pacific Tigers March 27-29. -

April 26, 2015SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball scored four runs in the first inning on its way to a 6-5 victory over Gonzaga as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Stephen Schott Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Broncos held off a ninth-inning Gonzaga rally as Mitchell White stranded the potential game-tying run on third and potential go-ahead run on first to earn his second save in as many days.
