Men's Golf in 10th Place After Day One of the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate Tournament

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team finished day one of the Cal State Bakersfield Invitational in 10th place after shooting rounds of 307 and 298 at the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Cal State Bakersfield.

The Broncos rallied after a slow start in round one, in which they shot a 307, to fire a 298 in round two and finish just 10-strokes out of fifth place.

Matt Klenz carded the lowest score of any Bronco, shooting rounds of 75 and 70 to put him in a tie for 10th place, just six shots off the lead. Sandy Horacek followed closely behind with two rounds of 75 to finish day one in a tie for 31st.

Chris DeMartini finished the day at 12-over par, 153, while John Edwards entered the clubhouse after carding a two-round total of 16-over par, 157. John Colyar rounded out the Broncos scoring with a two-round total of 164.

The third and final round will begin at 7 a.m. tomorrow at the par-71, Stockdale Country Club in Bakersfield.
