Men’s Golf Completes Play At Mark Simpson Invitational

ERIE, Colo. – Led by even-par 72 rounds from Michiel Eyre III and Devrath Das, Santa Clara men's golf completed play at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational with a final round 297 to finish 19th with a three-round total of 889.

Das and Eyre tallied the lowest rounds of the day for the Broncos, but their teammates all had their worst rounds of the event. "It was just one of those tournaments where we couldn't put it all together," head coach Rob Miller said. "Michiel and Dev both shot better today, but the other guys struggled."

Host Colorado carded an 844 (-20) team score to win the tournament by one-shot over Wyoming. Six of the 19 teams finished below par playing in model conditions at the Colorado National Golf Club.

"The conditions were ideal for scoring but we just couldn't take advantage," Miller added. "We struggled all tournament on the greens. We know what we have to work on."

Hayden Shieh scored a final round 3-over 75 and was the highest Santa Clara finisher tied for 50th at 4-over 220. Charlie Watson and Matt McCarty ended with identical scores of 8-over 224.

Das ended the event with a career-low round finishing with a 235 total. Eyre III also bounced back with his 15th career round at or below to finish with a 227 total.

"We didn't adjust well to the altitude," Miller said. "But golf is all about being consistent."

The Broncos have two weeks to find some consistency in their game. They will compete next at the Fighting Irish Golf Classic in Indiana starting Oct. 9.
