SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Three members of Santa Clara's men's and women's golf programs secured spots on the 2016-17 All-West Coast Conference teams.
Kristin Le and Hayden Shieh were placed on the first team while Derek Ackerman earned an honorable mention nod.
A two-time NCAA Championships qualifier, Shieh nearly became the first golfer in school history to claim the WCC title but fell in a playoff at last week's league tournament. He finished at 11-under-par 205 in the 54-hole tournament held in Provo, Utah. The junior competed in all 10 events this season, posting seven top-10 finishes, including four top-three showings in his final six tournaments. Shieh is expected to advance to 2017 NCAA Championships with 26th-best stroke average in the nation (70.57).
Le competed in all 11 events this year, posting eight top-10 finishes, including her second-career victory and a seventh-place finish with a 7-over 223 total at the WCC Championships, which was competed at Riverside Country Club. The junior ranks second in school history in stroke average (75.84), including a career-best 74.34 in 2016-17. She won the Cal Poly Lady Mustang Invitational (Oct. 22-23) with a 7-under 137, just one stroke off the 36-hole school record.
Le and Shieh were on the All-WCC First Team for the second-straight season.
Ackerman, a sophomore, earned his first WCC postseason accolade. He finished tied for ninth with a 3-under 213 total at the WCC Championships, his best finish of 2016-17 which included a career-best 68 in the final round. He posted a 74.21 stroke average on the season, third-best on the team.
