Shieh Named WCC’s Top Men’s Golfer for April

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara's Hayden Shieh was named West Coast Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for April.

Shieh had tremendous performances in his three tournaments during the month, including reaching a playoff at the WCC Championships (April 20-22). The junior finished among the top three in each outing and was under par in eight of his nine rounds.

He will make his third-straight appearance in the NCAA Championships, playing at next week's Stanford regional.

Shieh carded a final-round 67 to claim second at the Seattle Redhawk Invitational (April 3-4). He posted a three-round total of 6-under 206 (70-69-67) and watched from the clubhouse as Northwestern's Dylan Wu, who was then tied for 14th in the nation in stroke average, birdied his final hole to win individual medalist honors by a single shot.

The following week, he warmed up for the league tournament by finishing tied for third at the PING Cougar Classic (April 9-10), held at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. Shieh carded a 6-under 210 (69-72-69), one shot behind co-champions Pavan Sagoo of Saint Mary's and LMU's Blake Meek.

Then on the same course, Shieh posted the best-ever showing by a Bronco at the WCC Championships, though came up just short in his attempt to become the first Santa Clara golfer to claim the individual title. Shieh fired a 4-under-par 68 during the final round to finish at 11-under 205 (67-70-68), tied with BYU's Peter Kuest (70-67-68) atop the individual leaderboard. Shieh and Kuest returned to the 18th hole for a playoff where Kuest carded a par to come away with the victory.
