SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf will be competing against several of the best teams in the country when the Broncos head south for the San Diego Lamkin Classic starting Monday. Seven schools ranked in the top-50 are among the 15-team field that will navigate the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club.

At No. 18 in the current Golfstat.com poll, Texas is the highest ranked team in the tournament. Joining the Longhorns as top-50 clubs are Duke (20), San Diego State (22), North Carolina (28), Mississippi (29), New Mexico (48) and Middle Tennessee (49).

"It isn't getting any easier," head coach Rob Miller said of his team's spring schedule, which opened with a fifth-place finish at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate and followed with an eighth-place showing at the National Invitational Tournament. The Broncos fared well in both events that featured highly-ranked teams.

"This is probably the most difficult event this program has ever participated in," Miller said, referring to the level of competition.

Five other schools - Saint Mary's (58), UCLA (59), North Texas (62), Arizona (73) and Colorado State (79) - are currently ranked in the top-100. The Broncos have improved their ranking to No. 126 with their first two spring performances.

Junior Hayden Shieh, who has scored below par in each of his past six rounds, will compete in the No. 1 spot for the Broncos. Shieh carded a career-best 12-under 204 to take runner up honors at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate and finished at 10-under 206 at the NIT.

Rounding out the Broncos five-player team are freshman Matt McCarty, and sophomores Hassan Said, Derek Ackerman and Charlie Watson. Freshman Devrath Das will compete in his first spring tournament as an individual.

Monday's first round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with the second round immediately following. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com.
