Men's Golf Takes Sixth At Mardi Gras Invite

    NEW ORLEANS - After facing morning rain and heavy winds, the Santa Clara men's golf team took sixth place at the Mardi Gras Invitational hosted by the University of New Orleans. The Broncos compiled a 902 team score after 54-holes.

    The host-Privateers won the team title with a final score of 883 and Ken Looper of UNO took home the individual crown (72-74-68: 214).

    Junior Jimmy Cacho had his best tournament finish of the season as he tied for sixth place. Cacho shot one-over par 73 in each of the rounds for a final score of 219. Freshman Ronnald Monaco also had a solid performance for the Broncos. He finished in 26th place overall with a final score of 226 (72-82-72).

    Senior Jonathan Keane had his best performance of the even in the final round, shooting two-over 74. He finished tied for 40th with fellow Bronco Shaun Pienkos with a final score of 231. Freshman Danny Cacho rounded out Santa Clara's competitor's tied for 67th (241/82-77-82)

    The Broncos return to action on March 9-11 at Palmas Del Mar Classic hosted by St. John's (N.Y.). The three day event will be held at the Flamboyan Resort in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
