Travers Advances To State Am Championship Bracket

DALY CITY, Calif. - Bronco men's golfer Scott Travers advanced to championship bracket of the 98th Annual California State Amateur Championships after finishing tied for eighth in stroke play on Tuesday, June 23. He began the first round of match-play at 9:09 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24 at Lake Merced GC in Daly City.

Travers shot one-over 73 in the second round of stroke play to bring his final score to two-under 142. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native is battling head-to-head with George Gandranata of Emeryville. Gandranata finished tied for 18th with a final score of even-par 144.

The winner will advance to the Round of 16 on Thursday, June 25 and play either Tyler Crawford or Kevin Fryer at 8:20 a.m. Crawford, a 35 year-old from Rancho Mirage, tied for fifth at the end of stroke play at three-under 141. Fryer, a 34-year old from San Ramon, tied for 24th at one-over 145.

The road to the championship then continues with the Quarter- and Semifinals on Friday, June 26. The final two amateurs will then fight for the California State Championship on Saturday, June 27.

Freshmen Danny Cacho and Ronnald Monaco also wrapped up stroke play action on Tuesday, but did not finish in the advancing top-32. Monaco, after shooting two-over 74 on Monday, finished with another round of 74 for a final score of 148 (+4). Cacho, who dealt with harsh afternoon conditions in the first round (79/+7) rebounded with a round of 75 (+3) on Tuesday to finish at 10-over 154.
