Broncos Participate in 63rd Annual Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf program will participate in the 63rd Annual Western Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament on March 29-31 at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The Broncos will face strong competition from 17 schools including No. 36 California and No. 37 Michigan State, West Coast Conference foes Saint Mary's. Brown, UC Santa Barbara, Colorado, Denver, Fresno State, Kansas, Long Beach State, Mercer, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, San Jose State and Wyoming will also compete in the three-day event.

The format of the event is a 54-hole medal play, overall team and individual. The tournament begins on Sunday, March 29 and concludes on Tuesday, March 31. All rounds begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The Pasatiempo Golf Course is spread over 6,511 yards and has a par 70.

The 2007-08 team champion was Saint Mary's, while Michigan Stat's Jack Newman was the individual medalist.

In their last out, the Broncos finished fifth at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate in Puerto Rico. Leading Santa Clara was junior Jimmy Cacho, who rallied from a tied for 35th day two finish to finish tied for 11th place overall at the end of the event.
