Men's Golf Participates In The Saint Mary's Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf program will participate in the 2008 Saint Mary's Tournament on Sept. 29-30 at the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.

The Broncos will face strong competition from Akron, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Miami (Ohio), Nebraska, Notre Dame, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UT-Arlington and Wisconsin, and West Coast Conference rivals Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, San Francisco and host-Saint Mary's.

With 16 schools and 92 players the format of the two day event is a 54 hole medal play, overall team and individual. The tournament begins on Monday, Sept. 29 and concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Both rounds begin with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The 2007-08 team champion was Baylor (878/+14), who was led by the individual medalist Wesley Williams (214/-2). In 2005-06, Xavier (892/+28) picked up the team title, while Fresno State's Jason Anthony (218/+2) earned the individual medal.

In their first tournament of the year, Santa Clara finished 12th at the USF Intercollegiate at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. The Broncos were led by senior Jonathan Keane's seventh place finish.
