SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off back-to-back wins against Cal Poly on the road and Cal at home, Santa Clara men's soccer will face Georgia State on Saturday in another road test for the Broncos.
The Georgia State game will be the sixth road match in the last seven contests for the Broncos. Santa Clara (3-5-0) got out of the gates slowly during the stretch dropping the first four contests before beating Cal Poly 2-1 and Cal 3-2 last week.
Saturday's match in Atlanta is the third match that Santa Clara will be playing in the eastern time zone this year having played at Old Dominion and VCU earlier.
THE PANTHERS
Georgia State (6-2-0) is led by head coach Brett Surrency who is in his ninth year at the helm with a 84-71-9 career record. GSU is coming off a 12-7-1 season and return 20 letterwinners from that squad including nine starters.
The Panthers are currently riding a six-match winning streak after dropping the first two games to begin the 2018 season and are undefeated at home winning all three matches. GSU has shutout the last two opponents (Presbyterian, 4-0, and Mercer, 1-0) and have conceded just five goals in eight matches.
Goalkeeper Paul Tyson has a 0.62 goals against average while making 26 saves for a .839 save percentage while playing every minute of the Panther games.
Offensively, GSU has a balanced scoring attack with four players (Frank Rosenwald, Lukas Joyner, Aris Briggs and Alex Summerfield) who have each scored two goals each. Rosenwald also has two assists to his credit and leads the team with six points.

Saturday's match is the first meeting between Georgia State and Santa Clara.

Road Warriors
• Santa Clara plays 11 of its 17 regular season matches on the road this season. The Broncos are in the midst of playing seven of eight matches on the road and played five consecutive road matches from Aug. 31 to Sept. 18, going 1-4.
• The Broncos will travel to four states (Virginia, Missouri, Georgia and Ohio) when it plays its seven road matches between Aug. 31 and Oct. 2
• The Broncos play four 2017 NCAA Tournament teams on the road (Old Dominion, VCU, Pacific and San Francisco) and one at home (Cal). Santa Clara is 1-2 against those teams thus far, losing to Old Dominion and VCU before beating Cal on Saturday.
Game-Winners
• Andres Jimenez had scored the game winner in three consecutive Bronco wins dating back to last season until Saturday's game against Cal when an own goal in overtime by a Cal defender helped Santa Clara get a win.
• In the game against Cal Poly (Sept. 18), Jimenez's goal 41 seconds into the match turned out to be the game winner in the 2-0 win.
• In the 2018 season opener, Jimenez scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 64th minute against San Diego State to help the Broncos to a 2-0 win.
• In last season's final game against San Diego, Jimenez scored the game winner in the 85th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 win.
Quick Goal
• Andres Jimenez scored 41 seconds into the match against Cal Poly for the second quickest goal scored in Bronco history. Back on Sept. 17, 1991, Alberto Cruz scored the quickest goal, just 29 seconds into the match against CS Sacramento.
Clean Sheets
• The Bronco goalkeepers have recorded a clean sheet in four of the last 11 matches, dating back to last season.
• Dakota Havlick is credited with three of the shutouts including one this season in the season opener against San Diego State and seven in his career.
• Redshirt sophomore Henning Jolivet earned his first win as a Bronco on Sept. 18, shutting out Cal Poly.
Impact Newcomers
• The freshmen tandem of Emil Christensen and Sakari Carter have started in all matches this season on the backline.
• Another freshman, Martin Aasen, started the first seven matches of the season in the backline alongside Christensen and Carter before missing the last match against Cal.
• Sophomore transfer Alan Camacho Soto (from Temple) and freshman Julian Bravo have played in all matches this season.
• Camacho Soto made his first start on Tuesday against Cal Poly and has come in as a substitute in the previous matches.

Miscellaneous
• With the season opening win against San Diego State, Broncos head coach Cam Rast improved his record in season openers to 9-8 including 4-4 at home.
• The season opening win was the first since 2014 when the Broncos beat Nebraska-Omaha, 3-2, in overtime. It was also the last road-opening win.
• Carter and Gillingham have all gone the distance playing every minute of the first seven contests (759:13 minutes) this season.
• The match against Georgia State will be the first meeting between the two schools. It is the third time this season that the Broncos will face an opponent for the first time with Old Dominion and Missouri State being the other two.
'State' Schools
• The season opener against San Diego State was the third consecutive match the Broncos faced a "State" school. Santa Clara's first two preseason matches came against Sacramento State and San José State.
• The Broncos faced Missouri State on Sept. 10 and will face the last of the 'State' schools in Georgia State (Sept. 29).
