SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Six players from Santa Clara men's soccer received West Coast Conference All-Academic recognitions, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Sam Agosti was named to the All-Academic team for the second consecutive year with Alex Achramowicz, Brandon Gillingham, Dakota Havlick, Javier Ruiz Duran and Terrell Smith named honorable mentions.
The WCC recognized student-athletes who have earned at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a significant contributor to the team, have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed and participated in at least 50 percent of the completed contests.
Agosti, a junior, boasts a 3.81 grade point average as a marketing major. The midfielder from Seattle appeared in 15 matches including six WCC matches. The last Bronco named to the All-Academic squad in consecutive years was goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh in 2014 and 2015.
Achramowicz has a 3.225 GPA as a computer science & engineering major. The sophomore midfielder played in 14 matches, including 13 starts, logging 714 minutes of play while totaling three points on a goal and an assist.
Senior captains Gilligham and Havlick have 3.204 and 3.249 GPAs, respectively. A political science major, Gillingham was named second team All-WCC earlier in the month after playing every minute (1,630) of all 17 matches this season, primarily at the defensive midfield position where he tallied two assists.
Havlick who is majoring in sociology played in 10 matches posting 2-7-1 record including a shutout against San Diego State in the season opener. The Murrietta, Calif. native made 39 saves for a .684 save percentage while allowing 18 goals for a 1.68 goals against average.
Ruiz Duran, a sophomore, has a 3.318 GPA majoring in economics. The left-footer from Barcelona, Spain was also named second team All-WCC this season as he led the Broncos in goals (6), assists (5), points (17), shots (40) and shots on goal (18) while playing all 17 matches.
Smith has a 3.2 GPA majoring in sociology. The sophomore played in 12 matches, including 10 starts, on the backline.
The six honorees ties for the second most in the WCC along with Saint Mary's and LMU behind Gonzaga's seven.
The Broncos also had six honorees back in 2015.
