Injury Derails Nicholas Russell's Race at NCAA Championships

STILLWATER, Okla.Nicholas Russell was running well when an Achilles injury ruined his day at the NCAA Championships on Saturday and he was unable to finish.

"Unfortunately, Nicky strained his Achilles between 6-7k and was not able to finish the race," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "He was in 50th and moving up really well. My takeaway is that he proved he's one of the best distance runners in the NCAA, and when he can stay healthy, he's going to be an All American. I'm excited for his future, and that of our team."

Charles Hicks of Stanford ended up with the individual title with a time of 28:43.6.

Northern Arizona took the team title with a score of 83.
