Joe Siara joined the Santa Clara staff as the men's and women's basketball strength and conditioning coach in Aug., 2008. Siara most recently worked at the University of Florida where he completed his Master's degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology in May of 2008. His emphasis with his master's degree was human performance. While with the Gators he worked primarily with the men's basketball team under the direction of Matt Herring. Herring was with the Gator basketball team when they won back-to-back national titles in 2006 and '07; and made the NIT Semi-Finals in 2008. Siara also aided in the development of the both the men's and women's golf and tennis teams. "I am very excited for the opportunity to work at such a great university. I look forward to working with both the men's and women's basketball staffs to provide our student-athletes with safe and effective programs designed to maximize their athletic performance." said Siara. "Joe is a welcome addition to our family. His background and dedication are huge assets to our program and I have no doubt that his influence will be seen in our players performance as their bodies change for the better," said SCU head men's basketball coach Kerry Keating. "We are so excited to have Joe as an addition to our staff. His energy and enthusiasm is incredible and his commitment to excellence is carried out in his daily work with our student athletes. His knowledge of sport related strength issues and basketball specific needs will benefit each of our players everyday. I look forward to the time ahead with Joe and all he brings to our program," said SCU head women's basketball coach Jennifer Mountain. Siara, 24, is a 2006 graduate of Indiana University where he received a degree in Kinesiology. He is a 2002 graduate of Noblesville High School in Noblesville, Ind. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), a certified USA Weightlifting Sports Performance coach and is certified by the American Red Cross in CPR, AED and First Aid. He has a twin brother, Mike, who is a police officer in Indiana.
