SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Two Santa Clara beach volleyball players earned West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, announced by the WCC on Wednesday. Redshirt sophomore Chloe Loreen was selected to the all-academic team and sophomore Gretchen Reinert received an honorable mention.
Loreen, a mechanical engineering major, tied for the team lead with six match victories on the year and won four of those in straight sets. She competed at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots for the Broncos and scored match wins over No. 18 Saint Mary's, San Francisco (twice), San José State, Pacific and Ottawa.
Reinert, a communication major, scored four match victories and three in straight sets. She competed at all five spots in the 2019 campaign and defeated San Francisco (twice), Pacific and Ottawa.
Both Loreen and Reinert took home WCC all-academic accolades in the 2018 indoor season.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team. This season, 19 student-athletes turned in a 3.50 GPA while 10 registered 3.75 or above. Both are conference records.
