JUNCTION CITY, Ore - Kim Welch shot a course record 68 to lead Washington State to a commanding 14-stroke lead after the first day of the Oregon Duck Invitational played Monday at the 5,953-yard, par 72 Shadow Hills Country Club.

The Santa Clara University women's golf team finished day one of the Eighth-Annual Oregon Duck Invitational in 11th place, but did improve 21 strokes between rounds one and two.

Jessica Lamberty and Candice Palmer were the top finishers for the Broncos, ending day one at 18-over par. Lamberty fired rounds of 82 and 80 while Palmer carded rounds of 85 and 77.

Meggie Fagundes shot an 87 in the first round but bounced back with a 77 in round two and sits in a tie for 45th. Nikki Mack is tied for 58th after her 86 and 85 on Monday, while Courtney Dimpel-Composti fired rounds of 89 and 87.

"I was very happy with the turnaround that happened today," said head coach Polly Schulze. "We are always striving to get better and today's second round was a big step in the right direction. We just need to carry that over to tomorrow."

Tuesday's final round will begin in the morning at the Shadow Hills C.C. Following this tournament, the Broncos will host the Santa Clara Colby Classic on March 24 and 25 in Carmel, Calif.
