SANTA CLARA, Calif. - For the first time in program history the Santa Clara University women's golf team has a player that qualified to play in the Women's U.S. Public Links Championship. Freshman Meggie Fagundes was one of only 144 qualifiers for the even that will take place on June 17-22.

The event will take place at the Ocean Hammock Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla. During the first two days all 144 players compete in a stroke play qualifier that will narrow down the field to 64. Following the stroke play portion the 64 remaining players will be seeded according to their finish in the stroke play portion and will then tee off in match play competition for the remainder of the tournament.

Fagundes will tee off hole number 1 at 1:20 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, June 17th. The following day she is slated for a 8:40 a.m. tee time off hole number 10 at Ocean Hammock.

"This will be very beneficial trip for Meggie," said head coach Polly Schulze. "It will allow her to play against some of the best players in the nation which should help her take her game to the next level."

Fagundes became the program's first player to claim medallist honors when she won the Santa Clara Colby Invitational on March 25. She finished the year with an 83.7 stroke average and finished 22nd at the West Coast Conference Championships after helping the team improve 85 strokes from the previous year's finish in the same tournament.
