SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Concluding the opening weekend of West Coast Conference play, Santa Clara women's soccer fell to Pepperdine 5-0 Sunday afternoon at home.
Bri Visalli and Joelle Anderson both scored a pair of goals for the Waves (8-2-2, 2-0 WCC). Visalli scored the first of the match on a penalty kick in the 16th and added another in the 87th. Anderson scored in the 46th and 61st minutes.
The Broncos (6-6-1, 1-1 WCC) were able to outshoot Pepperdine 13-12 while putting six shots on goal but some nice play by Brielle Preece and the Pepperdine defense kept Santa Clara off the board.
The Broncos most dangerous chance came in the 69th minute when Maria Sanchez had her shot saved but Julie Doyle had another great chance on the rebound. Only the quick hands of Preece kept the Broncos off the board.
Preece finished the day with six saves.
