SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In a match that had two sets go beyond the 25-point mark, Pepperdine swept Santa Clara volleyball 28-26, 25-8, 27-25 Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference tilt at Leavey Center.

"I thought that we battled tough in game one and game three," Santa Clara head coach Jon Wallace said. "We had our opportunities. With our lack of continuity, it's just not there yet to play the big points how we need to play them. We're getting closer. We had some good strides, some good movement for sure."

The Waves (10-5, 4-1 WCC) had three players register double-digit kills en route to hitting .273 as a team. Hannah Frohling and Rachel Ahrens both collected 13 kills with Shannon Scully picking up 12. Blossom Sato had a match-high 37 assists and Hana Lishman led all players with 21 digs.

Kamrin Caoili registered 10 kills to lead the Broncos (5-11, 0-4 WCC), who hit .171. Michelle Shaffer tallied nine kills to go with seven digs. Chloe Loreen had 17 digs to lead Santa Clara with Allison Kantor (11) and Liliana Light (10) also registering double-figures. Light added 18 assists with Tessie Powers picking up 16.

"Kam [Caoili]'s been working really hard trying to figure out this college game," Wallace said. "She grows every week. Today, she did everything we've been asking her to do with the aggressiveness she had that made her such a great high school player. Now she's adapting to the college game. I thought she had a fabulous match."

The third set was tight throughout, with the biggest leads being at 12-9 and 15-12 for Pepperdine. Santa Clara was able to come back and after two straight points, had two chances at set point but Ahrens and Scully came up with kills to tie the match at 24-24. After trading points, Scully produced the final two kills of the day to give the Waves the win.

Santa Clara started the first set well, getting on top 10-5 after three-straight kills from Shaffer, but Pepperdine worked its way back to get within 15-14 and took its first lead at 22-21 on a kill by Tarah Wylie. After exchanging points, the Waves closed out the set with two consecutive points on a kill by Wylie and a bad set by Santa Clara.

Pepperdine dominated the second set, scoring the first seven points and getting out to a 17-1 lead at one point. The Broncos played it nearly even the rest of the way.
