Women's Water Polo To Take On CSUMB, Fresno Pacific

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team (1-4) will head south this weekend to take on Cal State Monterey Bay and Fresno Pacific in Seaside, Calif. on Feb. 6.

The Broncos will play the host Otters first at 10 a.m. CSUMB is 1-5 on the season, with their only victory coming against Fresno Pacific, 11-8. The Otters also attended the NorCal Invitational at California last weekend and lost to two common opponents with Santa Clara, falling 27-4 to the Golden Bears and 10-1 to San Jose State. Senior forward Heather Penna leads CSUMB with five goals.

The Broncos will face the Sunbirds at 1 p.m. Fresno Pacific, an NAIA school, is 1-6 on the season and is currently suffering a five-game losing streak. The Sunbirds' only victory came over Azusa Pacific, a team they have also lost twice to, 10-9. Junior driver Brittney Guerrero leads the Fresno Pacific offense with seven goals.

Santa Clara is led offensively by senior driver Jenny Knutson with seven goals while junior utility Taylor Harkins has six. In all, the Broncos have had nine different goal scorers over five games. In the cage junior goalie Wren White has 23 blocks, while freshman Stephanie Clements, who saw time against No. 4 California, has three saves.
